Caring for Your Quality Spring Pieces: Suede, Silk & Linen

Upfront protection is the best way to prevent your new suede pieces from being damaged. Use a high-quality suede protector spray to help to repel water, dirt, and stains. If dirt does reach your garment, don’t be tempted to wipe it off immediately. Let it dry, then use a soft suede brush to break away the dried mud. If your suede gets caught in the rain, keep it away from your radiator, hairdryer, or direct sunlight as this will dry out the material. Just let it dry naturally.
While you can wash silk on a delicate cycle in your washing machine, we prefer handwashing to provide some extra care. Add a gentle detergent to lukewarm water and wash, but don’t let the garment soak as this can damage the fibres. Never tumble dry – just like suede, let it dry naturally. For ironing, turn your garment inside-out while it’s still slightly damp and iron on a very low heat.
While linen is easier to care for, use these tips to keep your favourite pieces in great condition. There’s no need to handwash, just throw linen straight into your washing machine on a gentle cycle with cold or lukewarm water. The more you wash linen, the softer it becomes. Wrinkles are part of the carefree and casual style of this material, but if you prefer a crisp look, iron while the garment is still slightly damp.
